How to Install Your Worktop Like a Pro

Preparation Is Key

Before diving into the installation process, ensure that your under-mounted sink is already installed and properly supported. Likewise, check that there are no obstructions to the appliances such as sinks and hobs. Remember, adjustments are much easier to make before the worktops are fitted.

Clear the Space

Clear the room and walkways of any obstacles to facilitate the movement of the worktop sections. Plan a clear route for bringing in the sections, avoiding lifting worktops over each other. It's essential to have two people for each lift and to agree on the plan beforehand.

Lifting and Placement

Lift the worktop sections and place them down on their back edge. Roll them into position with arms spread. Once in place, check that the overhangs are consistent. If adjustments are needed, you can make cuts in the stone using an angle grinder and vacuum.

Leveling and Fixing

Use plastic shims to level up the worktops, ensuring good support by placing shims on carcass sides. Once leveled, glue the worktops down with polymer glue on top of the units. For jointing, use a color-matched resin joint that sets strong and hard in 15 to 20 minutes. While silicon is easier and more flexible, it offers a lower quality finish.

Special seam setters are available to assist with the jointing process, making it even more seamless.

Upstands Installation

Dry fit the upstands and trim them with a diamond blade if necessary. Apply colored silicone to the back edge of the worktop and use polymer glue or paintable sealant on the back of the upstand. Push the upstands into place and cork the top edge where they meet the wall.

Surface Cleaning and Sealing

Finally, clean the surfaces using household cleaners, builder's wipes, or acetone, depending on the residues to be removed. We recommend sealing the worktops with a nano sealer for added protection and longevity.
